SPARTANS Bantam Girls
UNIONVILLE SPARTANS 2014 BANTAM GIRLS
The Bantam Spartans finished a challenging season with a strong effort in the OSSTAs advancing to the quarter finals, where they battled Whitby, a perennially strong team, all the way to the end but fell short. This season was a transition year where many players stepped up to fill gaps through injury or vacancies and developed their skills over the season. Nicole, Aurora and Megan all stepped up to the tough pitching role against formidable competition, continuing to improve all year and posting strong performances in the OSSTAs. Madison did an excellent job filling in at catcher for the first time or playing any other position asked of her and successfully moved into the cleanup position and continued to excel at hitting. Caitlin and Cassandra continued their strong play and leadership throughout the season. Cassandra also returned quickly from injury to help backstop the team at the OSSTAs. Vanessa, Tamiko and Ann continued to work hard during tournaments and practices delivering clutch hitting and solid defensive play. Kristen played a versatile role this year, whether catching, infield or outfield. Kaitlin, in her inaugural Spartans season, worked hard all year and continued to gain confidence and skill, delivering timely hits throughout the year.
For much of the year we had a short bench and often called up players from the league to fill out our roster. We had great performances from Katie, Tia, Arden, Teyanna, and Alexa.
Once again the parents did a great job helping out at tournaments, practices and running the team. James, Gord and Bruce did an excellent job helping out coaching and Joyce once again was great help managing the team.
Overall we had a tough year, by Spartans standards, but considering the competition we faced this year, the girls did a great job elevating their games and bringing up their compete level for the end of the season.
