# CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2017 MITE GIRLS PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

# Mite Girls win Silver in Etobicoke

#Squirt Girls win BRONZE in Whitby!

Aug 5, 2017 – The coaches got a little wet as the Squirt girls celebrated another Bronze Medal win in Whitby on Aug 5th.  After losing a close game in the morning, the girls ramped up the defence to win 3 straight for a second bronze medal victory.  The coaches are very proud of all of our players. Looking forward to the Provincials!

#Mite Girls win their 5th GOLD!

Aug 5, 2017 – Make it five tournament victories in a row and a perfect 18-0 on the season!

What a season so far.Even after losing half of our Spartan Mite girls who moved up to play Squirt , the Mite girls are undefeated this year with an unbelievable 18-0 record.Gold medal games such as an extra inning victory over Etobicoke and two gold medal victories against Barrie top this seasons wins.Accompanying these are gold medal wins in Milton and Brampton.

Keys to our success have been superb pitching by Thalia and Carys (who rarely give up any runs) , exceptional catching by Avery who has been as solid as a rock behind the plate.Amazing fielding by Megan , Kaitlyn , Lucy along with great plays in the outfield by Leyla , Olivia , Miya , Sofia , Brooke & Emma. And a special thanks to Caitlyn and Rachel for filling in when we have been short players.

Hitting seems to be paramount in many of our wins as well. Weather it be a mammoth home run , an key two out single or a timely walk the girls ALWAYS seems to come through.A perfect example of this was in Erindale when we outscored our opponents 69-1.

No matter how the season ends up it has truly been a pleasure for the coaches to be apart of this team…..GO SPARTANS!!

Thank you,

Terry Armour.

#Squirt Boys win BRONZE in Bradford!

July 29th, 2017 – Sometimes, you have nowhere to go but up!  The Squirt Boys Spartans did just that this weekend in Bradford earning a bronze medal.  The players turned in epic performances that solidified three out of four wins.   Thank you to Jacob for overall great pitching, Paolo “the closer” Tremonti for closing the Topham win 2 crucial final strikeouts (and loaded bases), Gordon “pop-fly” Huang who dominated short stop, Sam “nothing gets by me” Dai on back catcher, David “always gets on base” Mak, and finally, thanks to the critical batting contribution by Riley, Niko, ZachN, ZachT and ConnorT.  Well done to the entire team for winning but more importantly, having great winning attitudes.

#Peewee Boys win GOLD in Jordan…and complete the trifecta medal collection (G/S/B)!

July 29th, 2017 – Peewee boys finally struck GOLD in the last tournament before provincials to be held at home in Unionville.  Key to victories were home runs by Stewart, Dhruv and Eric with more extra base hits (doubles and triples) from Jaden and Chad.  The 4 man pitching rotation of Nicholas, Zach, Phillip and Eric held the opposing batters to minimal damage and nothing worse than one double the entire day.  Included in the great pitching were three mid-inning relief appearances to cool off opposing rallies; highlighted by a Zachary bases loaded catch of a liner and throw to 2nd to Aidan for the inning ending double play.  The outfield was excellent in making important catches from Ethan, Aidan, Caleb and Eric with zero drops.  Sometimes even taking catches away from teammates; but we will not mention names.  Let’s just say it was E.Smith.  No, wait, that’s too obvious, let’s call him Eric. S.  On a scorching hot day we also had amazing back-catching from the duo of Stewart and Julian including a pick-off at first base of a wandering Jordan base-runner.  Kudos lads!

#Mite Boys win 3rd consecutive BRONZE in Brantford!

The Mite Boys celebrate after winning their third Bronze Medal in a row with a come from behind victory. The game was tied after 6 innings when the opposition scored 5 runs in the top of the 7th inning. The Spartans then rallied to score 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, including a walk off home run!

#Mite Girls on their 4th GOLD win in Erindale!

#Squirt Girls win BRONZE in Brampton!

Our squirt girls had an awesome tournament this weekend.  Here’s a not-so short summary.

On July 15th, the Squirt girl Spartans played in their second tournament of the year.  We started the day early against the Milton Tournament winning Barrie Red team.  With excellent fielding and solid pitching, our girls shut down their hitting in this back and forth game to finish with a close loss.  On to the next game, our mighty 10 battled through injury to put on a defensive clinic against Topham Park.  Fire ball pitching and great tracking of fly balls lead to an 18-2 victory.  A little fatigued, but fired up, we played our third game against Oakville.  Once again our defence was solid and the bats came alive to propel us to a 19-0 victory.  This secured a spot in the semi’s.

Once again we found ourselves playing Barrie Red.  After comments from the Barrie coach of “we had under-estimated you”, “most improved team from last year”, and  “Our semi-final should have been the Gold medal game”, our girls rose to the challenge of Barrie Red.  With great pitching, amazing fielding, including 4 fly ball outs, a double play, and 3 tag-outs at home, we forced a tie breaker 7th inning.  Holding them to 3 runs, we came up to the plate to finish off the game.  After scoring two runs on an offensive stealing play, we came up one run short of victory.

Feeling the sting of the loss, our girls rallied together, supported each other and regrouped for the bronze medal game against Kenmore.  Tired and injured, our girls battled through in true Spartan fashion.  Again our pitching was solid, and defence was amazing.  The golden glove award could have been given to anyone on the team, whether it was one of the fly ball catches, the line drive outs or the ground balls that our girls made look routine.  The girls earned their bronze medal with a decisive 10-2 victory.

The coaches and parents couldn’t be more proud of the girls, not only for their efforts on the field but also for the way they rallied around each other, to pump each other up, support each other and show what a true team looks like.  We may have brought home a bronze but it certainly felt like gold.

#Squirt Boys are Consolation Finalists in Brantford!

#Peewee Boys still have the most charming coaching staff!

  • MVP players from Lake Simcoe Peewee Tournament: Philip, Dhruv, Zachary
