WELCOME TO UMSA 2017!
It is finally here!  The opening of the Unionville Minor Softball 2017 season!  Please read over all enclosed materials. Be sure to look over everything carefully and direct any questions, concerns and compliments to your coach or UMSA volunteers.

Uniforms and Equipment
Uniforms MUST be worn during all games (Opening Day and regular season). Shirts are to be tucked in and remember to put your name in your cap so you don’t lose it. Shorts are not permitted at any time during games or practices. Fully closed shoes must be worn by players and coaching staff. For our divisions from Coach Pitch and older, players must wear caged batting helmets (provided in team equipment). ALL players using a personal helmet must have a cage and be CSA approved.

Schedules
We are providing you with a hard copy of your 2017 Opening Day schedule. All regular season schedules can be found on our website – www.umsa.ca . Directions to the diamonds are also on our website. You may be at different diamonds on Opening Day than you usually play at throughout the season.

Opening FUN and PHOTO Day
The day can be extremely hectic. When reviewing the Opening Day Game & Photo Schedule keep the following in mind: there are 56 teams playing, over 100 games, 56 team photos and over 610 individual photos to be taken! UMSA has volunteers who coach multiple teams and are heavily involved in other aspects of the league. Many of our senior players also umpire and in certain cases coach younger teams as well. Imagine all those kids running around and their families. Hectic is putting it mildly! Year after year, at the end of the day it all gets done. So, keep your cool and do your part. Follow the schedule, help out where you can, and have a great day! Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Photos
Our NEW for photographer service for 2017 is Hunter’s Sports.  Their ordering system is different, coaches will be distributing order forms for those parents that wish to order more than the team and individual photo provided by UMSA.  Outside Crosby Arena Hunter’s Sports will be set up under their tent to deal directly with purchasing extra photo items.  These extra purchases are separate from UMSA.  Photo times for each team is listed to the right of their division schedule. This is the time the photo is taken! Please arrive prior to this time in order to avoid missing out on your photo, the photographer will not wait. Team photos cannot be rescheduled if a player misses having their photo taken on Sat. June 10th. Individual photo make-up date, as well as Spartan Select team photos will take place on Thursday June 15th, time and location posted June 11th.  This is strictly for players that were absent June 10th.

Where Do We Go for Photos?
The BACK of Crosby Arenarain or shine!  Photos will be taken inside Crosby Arena back entrance only. Coaches and teams are to be checked in at the UMSA tent. Parents, siblings, and pets are not permitted in the photo or in the arena. Your child’s coach will be with them. Please wait patiently behind the arena for your child to come out with their team. At the end of the photo session, each player will receive their UMSA 2017 “loot”.

Food & Drinks (BBQ still requires volunteers especially a couple of grill experts – if no one steps forward this will be cancelled)
Complimentary player hot dog & drink coupons will be given out by your coach after your morning game or photo session, which can be redeemed at our BBQ Tent near Crosby Main Diamond.  Family members can purchase lunch coupons at our ticket tent throughout the day for their BBQ lunch to support the league. The BBQ will open at 10am. The BBQ will run until 3:30pm. Food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage, and other ball park favourites will be available! AGAIN THIS WILL ONLY TAKEN PLACE IF WE HAVE ENOUGH VOLUNTEERS!

Volunteers As a community group run solely by volunteers, please help out to make the day enjoyable for everyone by offering a hand at either the BBQ, or selling tickets at the fundraising table. . . . . remember we all do this for the benefit of the kids, even the older ones!

Washrooms Located along the outside wall of Crosby Arena at the back, and port-a-potties are at the larger diamond facilities.

Support UMSA’s  Fundraising
On Opening Day, UMSA will sell tickets for a promotional draw. The draw will take place at 4:30pm on Saturday June 10th for a chance to win a variety of items generously donated by UMSA family’s, sponsors and other community members. These items will be displayed under our tents.  Draw tickets are 1 for $2, 3 for $5 or 7 for $10. You can purchase draw tickets near Crosby Main diamond. Don’t forget to bring your loonies and toonies for our Famous Lollipop Pull where everyone is a winner! We will also be selling hats, balls and UMSA paraphernalia. UMSA also is selling a variety of new helmets. Your support in our fundraisers and draws are greatly appreciated!

Opening Day Games
Regular season rules apply. This is not tournament format. The umpire’s decision is final! In most cases there is enough time scheduled in between games to avoid late starts. There may be the odd umpire who may have to leave a game early or arrive slightly late so that they can participate in their team photo or game. This may also be the case for certain players who are helping another division fill in their rosters. Please be patient, games will start at the scheduled time with or without an umpire or two present.  Players arriving late are added to the bottom of the batting order. Teams listed second on the schedule are the home team for the game. If a double ** asterisk appears next to the home team, they are in charge of putting away the bases and locking the box. Blast T-ball and T-3 Pitch games are only 45 minutes long with no umpires.
